Doctor looked close to the screen and exclaimed, it's a girl. Oh well that's me, My mother was excited at this news. I could sense her heart leaping with joy. This journey was about to begin. I felt wonderful budding in the warmth of her
womb. She seemed really joyful and so was I. The thought of being caressed by
her, being in her lovely arms, being lavished by her love, was ecstatic. I was
desperately waiting to see her pretty face. I assured myself that she will be
my love at first sight. I felt secure, loved and blessed. And then I silently
anticipated the man whom she was going to introduce me to. Every daughter’s first hero, my daddy. I could hardly wait for the
surprises my parents would have prepared for me.
I weaved a colorful picture of my future. In this picture, my parents looked
to be really proud of me. We shared the sorrows, we shared the laughter. We
shared everything, together. We were tied in the bond of love. Our family was
an example to many. We had good
understanding. They brought me up in love and in perfect submission. They
adorned me with every good thing on this earth.
They had done many things for me despite their struggle for survival.
Each grey hair on them reminded me of my advancing responsibilities. I was highly educated, working harder to live up to their expectations.
I secured an excellent post. My first paycheck, I handed it to my father. He hugged
me and proudly stated “She
is my daughter!” I was an independent
woman. They chose a groom for me. I was still obedient. More
responsibilities flooded in. But I was becoming strong each day. I had many
roles to play now, a caring mother, noble wife, responsible daughter, efficient
worker and much more. I never gave up. My family was my priority, always. I battled hard, compromising in every situation, never thinking about myself; I was on the
winning side. Against all the odds I stood by their side. Each day, I took utmost
care of them. My parents blessed me and said “we are proud of having a daughter like you”. They made me realize that I was the future of this world. I became a woman who lived up-to the society and family's expectations, I was a role model for generations to come. They
enabled and educated me to stand firm as a voice of liberty and equality."
The picture was perfect. I smiled to myself
anticipating my future. I curled up in my mother’s womb cozily and I waited
desperately to come into this world.
Few
days later...
I was innocently counting the number of birthdays and presents to come. I looked around. I sensed something wrong in the aura. Their expressions were not at all comforting. Everything was different to what I had conceived in my mind about this world. May be they were upset. Suddenly someone whispered “Her father will have more liabilities with a burden to raise a GIRL”.
I found myself in a very uncomfortable place. It did not have the warmth of
my mother. It was a sickening place. A gem from
future was lost. As I struggled for my last breath in this discriminating society, my dreams shattered into pieces. #BanAbortion #empowerwomen #Iamagirl
